SmallCapInvestor was conceived in mid-2005 by Business Financial Publishing founder and President Ian Wyatt. Since 2001, Business Financial Publishing has focused on researching and analyzing small and micro capitalization equities for individual investors. Business Financial Publishing was certainly not alone analyzing small cap equities, but a growing reputation as a highly credible and independent source of insightful information was propelling its growth. By 2005, it became clear to Ian that there was no single Internet media or publishing company with clear leadership in the small and micro cap investing arena. Small and micro cap stocks have always attracted much attention from hype-driven Web sites that are compensated for coverage of often illegitimate companies with poor operating results and pie-in-the-sky promises. While there are a handful of independent publishers following these small companies, most have only a single publication dedicated to the sector, and lack breadth. And while the major financial news and Web sites will occasionally cover smaller capitalization equities, their focus has always been on following companies that are the most popular with investors, which tends to be large and mid-cap companies.
