Winslow founder Jack Robinson has been an active environmentalist for most of his life. His parents were the co-authors of the classic 1950s homesteading guide, The Have-More Plan, and he was raised in a fully self-sufficient rural household that taught him the value of sustainable living firsthand. In 1979, Jack left behind his career at Prudential Securities to return home to a rural lifestyle in Vermont, and took senior management positions at two environmentally focused organizations: Garden Way, Inc., a private garden supply company, and the National Association of Gardening, a trade association. As CFO of Garden Way, Jack saw that many of the companys most profitable products had green attributes, such as utilization of recycled materials. Seeing the market potential for environmentally responsible products and services, he incorporated Winslow Management Company in 1983 with the mission of demonstrating that an environmentally-focused investment strategy could yield positive results for clients. Over the past quarter-century, Winslow has developed extensive expertise in the arena of green investing. We have developed a comprehensive portfolio management approach that integrates financial and environmental analysis. We have also expanded our knowledge of crucial green markets, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and natural products, over many years of active investment in these sectors. As we refined our investment approach between 1983 and 2001, we also built relationships with individual and institutional clients, including foundations, endowments, subadvisory relationships and pension plans. In 2001, Winslow launched a series of its own investment products, including a hedge fund open to accredited investors and the Winslow Green Growth Fund (WGGFX), our flagship mutual fund product. Also in 2001, the firm welcomed portfolio manager Matthew Patsky, a well-known investment expert in the natural products sector, and since that time the firm has continued to add top-quality research analysts to its investment team.
