Montanaro is an independent fund management group established in 1991 with funds under management of over €1 billion. We research and invest in UK and European quoted SmallCap companies with a focus on companies below €500 million. Most of our clients are leading financial institutions including insurance companies, pension funds and local authorities. Since returns from the European quoted small companies market are so much greater than from large companies, we believe that leading institutions should invest in them. However, many will not do so directly due to the high cost of a dedicated SmallCap team and the time needed to research and invest. Therefore, the solution is to use an independent specialist such as Montanaro with the resources to capture the superior returns available from this asset class. We have one of the largest Pan-European SmallCap teams consisting of five different nationalities working from London within a team of twenty. This is a significant differentiator – local knowledge is important. We recognize that returns are a function of risk and take a conservative, low risk approach, aiming to outperform the small company market consistently irrespective of market cycle.
