Jacobs & Company was organized in 1988 by John M. Jacobs as the first independent, fee-based investment advisory firm in West Virginia. Originally, the firms business focused principally on high net worth, individual and corporate clients; but commencing in 1994, that business expanded to include the management of corporate accounts pledged as collateral to secure indemnification obligations to insurance companies that had issued surety bonds to secure performance obligations. In June of 2001, Jacobs & Company further expanded its business by sponsoring the creation of its proprietary mutual fund (Click here for more information), providing the public with access to the firms balanced investment program. Today the firm manages investment accounts for high net worth individual corporate and institutional clients, including accounts pledged as collateral to insurance companies. In May of 2001, Jacobs & Company and an affiliated company, FS Investments, Inc., became wholly owned subsidiaries of NELX, Inc. as the result of mergers which accomplished a reverse acquisition. As the result of the transaction, the shareholders of Jacobs & Company and FS Investments, Inc. became the majority shareholders of NELX.
