Active Asset Management is an investment advisory firm that does not do what everyone else is doing. At AAM, we do not rely on manias or perpetual bull markets to drive investment returns. It is our belief that over long periods of time, the value of a stock will trend towards the underlying value of the company it represents ownership in. As Warren Buffet said, “In the short term the market is a voting machine. In the long term the market is a weighing machine”. When we enter a position, we want time on our side. We invest in equities that have strong fundamentals, and we utilize technicals to obtain the most favorable pricing. We do not buy stocks that have momentum or strong technicals if they are not fundamentally sound. We do not buy fundamentally weak equities just because everyone else does, they will eventually fall out of favor. Typically, we shun the cocktail circuit stocks. Value is of upmost importance. We buy what we believe is undervalued, we sell what we consider overvalued. We focus more on the value of an individual equity than the level of the market indexes. We like companies that sell at a discount to their cash flow ratio and have strong balance sheets with low or no debt and solid cash reserves. We manage value in a volatile environment.
