RealTick was developed in the early 1980s when DOS was the backbone of its operating system. Roman numerals were used to denote the current RealTick version. RealTick II was the first major revision of the program. It incorporated specialized programming for CBOT data. In 1987 Microsoft released the Windows 2.0 operating system. This new platform allowed for multi-tasking capabilities and data collection, as well as introduced the now-standard, decimal-style version convention. Grasping the significance of this revamped platform, Townsend Analytics developed a Windows-based version of its own software, RealTick III. The release of RealTick 7.0 incorporated decimal-style version numbers rather than the previous roman numerals, originally intended to denote the current MS operating system. Subsequent versions of RealTick 7.0 contributed to Townsend Analytics’ pledge to provide leading-edge trading technology. RealTick 7.6 greatly advanced order types and order entry features by supporting new, sophisticated order types and chart enhancements. RealTick 7.7 provided access to TAL’s latest server architecture with enhanced market data from more sources than ever previously possible. This new server technology offered RealTick customers both domestic and foreign equity, futures, and options, as well as domestic bonds. RealTick 7.7 included a new regional view for the MarketMaker window, European data, instant remote connection to the TAL network from anywhere in Europe and North America, and availability of the NYSE Liquidity Quote.
